Ten factors of success

In the midst of creating positive change for yourself there are a variety of life fundamentals that are pertinent to achieve true lasting happiness. Here are ten factors for being successful:

1. Surround yourself only with positive and uplifting people – people that encourage you, rather than people that constantly breed negativity. This will be one of the most effective ways of gaining enlightenment. True friends are those that breed compassion and those that are encouraging. It may take some effort finding the right relationships for your lifestyle, but they’re out there.

2. Create a vision board of the things you wish to accomplish. Cut pictures from magazines that represent your goals and desires. Paste them on a piece of card board. Place your vision board in a room you visit frequently. For example: tape it to your bathroom mirror. Every time you brush your teeth, the images will inspire you to act upon your goals. Vision boards create great reminders of the lifestyle that’s worth living.

3. Measure all of your desires. Ask yourself how important they are to you. If they are crucial to your well being then do your best to achieve them; however, if they contain no other value than materialism then delete them altogether. Don’t let materialism affect the way you live your life. Be happy with what you already have.

4. For those that are working day jobs to make a living, take some time to search for the reasons why you picked the job in the first place. Question who the influences were that affected your decisions in getting the job initially. Ask yourself, “Would I be happier working a different role altogether, or am I perfectly fine where I am?” Does your job bring satisfaction to your days or could you use some positive change in your workplace?

5. Create a list of pros and cons of your current lifestyle. Include all factors that contribute to your well being and happiness, such as: friendships, jobs, career and lifestyle. Weigh the pros and cons within each component of your life. Which area serves more negativity than positivity? This may help encourage positive changes within your regimen.

6. Search for the limiting beliefs that drag you down each day. Pay attention to your actions throughout your days. Keep track of your emotions and how you react in certain situations. Which challenging situations bring you anger? Do you harness any hatred towards anyone? These are great questions to ask yourself, as they’re limiting your belief system and challenging you to live a happy lifestyle. Once you’ve gathered a sense of your emotions and where they reside, take some time to work on eliminating them for good. Only when a problem is acknowledged can it be solved and freed from your conscious. Enlightenment cannot live in a flooded mind of negativity.

7. Stop comparing yourself to everyone else. Each of us is unique in our own way. We harness different qualities that make us different people. We have different desires, passions and aspirations, and each of us harness different beliefs. In fact, we all look at life through an entirely different perspective. Comparing yourself to others will only lead to further negativity within your mind. It simply has no place in our lives.

8. Be grateful for what you have. Most of us strive our entire lives trying to fulfill materialistic goals. We work incredible amounts of hours and put our hard efforts to work just to attain materialistic items. All too often, the satisfaction we initially received from the purchase dissipates within hours of leaving the store. It dissipates even more when the product becomes outdated. Don’t waste your time on materialism. Even though it’s nice to drive fast cars and live exciting lifestyles through materialism, it will only lead to a defeated mindset and emptiness. Find ways to be grateful for what you already have and eliminate the necessity for materialism immediately. Being grateful will lead to happiness and feelings of freedom.

9. Find contentment within everything you do in life. From waking up in the morning to going to bed at night, you should find contentment in everything you put effort towards. Our jobs are a primary example of this. Many people go to work dissatisfied because their routine is effortless and endless. It’s the same boring thing every day. This then leads to dissatisfaction in other more personal areas of life, like chores around the house, or spending time with loved ones. In the whirlwind of dissatisfaction we lose sense of what’s truly important. Find contentment within all the roles you play in your life. Even though it can be difficult to find the positives in your environment it is possible to achieve.

10. Believe in yourself no matter what situation you’re in. Our beliefs were altered through our life experiences, and they were affected by the influences around us. Harnessing any negative beliefs about ourselves will only act as a barrier to living a healthy and happy lifestyle. Any ill beliefs that you form about yourself will eat away at your confidence. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. A simple strategy that can enhance your belief system is by linking joy to your achievements. Think back at all the accomplishments you’ve attained. Even the smallest achievement will act as a source of healthy encouragement to living your hearts desires.

Excellent post! Number one is especially important. I never took that piece of advice too seriously until I finally did surround myself with better people, and it was life changing to say the least. If anyone reading this chooses to follow just one of these steps, let it be that one!

Wow! This is what I needed. I have been reading many motivational books on and off for many years. I am now reading your book Dreamer. It is a great read and very helpful in fact it gave me the insight to look you up on the internet. However, I can read and study how to get motivated but somehow I get stuck and don’t follow through with achieving my goals. Just to name one goal is to that of completing my teaching degree in working with special needs. I continually tell myself I will finish my degree before I am such and such an age, well I just turned 47 and still have in my mind to work and teach special needs students. I hope with Gods help I can use the resources that He provides to move forward and achieve success. Thank you for providing valuable resources for us and God bless.
